The WS500 is a next generation Smart Regulator for Marine, Off-grid and RV applications. It is ideally suited to the latest in battery technology and includes CANBus and NMEA2k communications to integrate into an overall Energy Management Network and the REC BMS product line.

The WS500 is the only alternator regulator available that can utilize current, voltage and temperature to deliver the most precise and effective charging possible for 12V, 24V and 48V battery systems – with configurability for voltages in between – making it the perfect solution for charging lead acid based, or new generation LiFePO4 lithium-ion battery banks.

Uniquely designed to be configured via easy-to-use onboard DIP switches, or can be connected to a PC to provide more than 100 user controls.

The WS500 can be connected to a current shunt to monitor current flow to and from the batteries, enabling the regulator to control charging based on a combination of system voltage and amperage delivered from the alternator to the batteries. In addition, the WS500 can also monitor alternator and battery temperatures and modify charging output to ensure optimal safety and charging performance at the alternator and batteries. When connected to a BMS system, the WS500 can receive critical voltage, current and temperature data via the CAN J1939 pathway, reducing the need for external sensor connections.

The regulator’s auto-detect function identifies system voltage and automatically adjusts charging to support 12V, 24V and 48V profiles. Default profiles for eight battery types can be configured at the regulator via the DIP switches. Selectable profiles include programs for standard and deep cycle flooded lead acid, standard and high-density AGM batteries, Gel, Battle Born lithium batteries, and generic LiFePO4. Two profiles allow for the flexibility to customize profiles with a PC, using the WS500 Configuration Tool or a terminal program like Putty. Support for non-common battery voltages (such as 32v) may also be configured in the same way.

The WS500 can be used with different polarity alternators by selecting the appropriate N-Type or P-Type regulator wiring harness. Wiring harnesses are equipped with high-quality Ampseal connectors and provide all connections for basic operation, as well as dedicated connection wires for voltage and current sensing.

the wakespeed alt voltage regulator is a special component and priced right at ogm probably cheaper than other sources as i got the kit with shunt. correct me if i am wrong but i think ogm wrote their own software program for laptop use that codes the regulator as well as datalogs and has a much nicer interface than what i see wakespeed advertising. this software is an add on item that was part of my kit by promotion. my application is basically a land yacht (rv) and the goal is to have a diversified electrical generation system and as best i can tell now, the wakespeed is a key puzzle piece and integrates so well with my highoutput alternator. i wish i had a watercooled alternator as i read someone that did was able to basically achieve max output almost all the time, but having an aircooled unit the wakespeed will protect it. based of initial testing, i deem it feasible to to run 1 rooftop ac, basic chassis loads, and probably a tv with out running the generator by having a high output alternator with wakespeed with a good sized battery bank, rooftop solar, and integrated automatic generator start as a backup. that is under ideal conditions, and running the alternator at high loads produces a lot of heat so more testing will be done as well as working on piping fresh air to the alt. honorable mention to Rick for quality customer service, will work on my bms next.

Thanks for the great review and sharing your project with us! And yes, we developed the Windows 10/11 WS500 config tools. Glad it helped!

Rick the saviour!

I don’t generally leave ratings feedback but Rick at OGM was deserving of special mention. He spent a good deal of time assisting with the design, and procurement of the charging solution for my boat. If it wasn’t for Rick, I’d still be in a mess. Thanks so much, you were an amazing support. I can certainly recommend OGM for their customer service.

Wow, thanks so much for the awesome review. Best of luck getting your boat out of the marina and back on the high seas!

I phone app doesn’t work no info how to set up expensive waste of money ….

The WS500 app created by Wakespeed is done using a multi-platform language called Flutter. When compiled for Apple IOS, the communications portion of the app gets disabled because Apple does not allow third parties to use the Lightning port for USB serial functionality. There is nothing Wakespeed can do to overcome this but to help we have fully refunded the cost of our Windows 10-11 tech tool and hopefully that helps get you set up and going.
